    Quinta do Poço Gardens

The Quinta do Poço Gardens is a beautiful leisure area with several interesting species of trees and shrubs. Visitors can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of Funchal from the garden’s belvedere. At the beginning of the 20th century, a large reservoir began operating at this site to supply the city of Funchal with potable water. That is why the estate was known as the Poço da Câmara (Municipal Well). Later it came to be known as Quinta do Poço. With an area of 9,540 m2, the garden also has a nursery that produces the plants used for landscaping and maintaining the city’s public green spaces.

banner Funchal, the capital of the Madeira archipelago, was declared a city in the 1500s, and became an important point between the old and new worlds. The laid-back city owes much of its historical prominence to the white gold, the Madeiran sugar. Today Funchal is known for its appealing temperatures, wine and crafts. Top spots to visit include the open Worker's Market, Blandy's Wine Lodge and the Sacred Art Museum. Friendly locals, walkable streets and cheap taxis make the city easy to get around.
